1. THE CRITIC CHALLENGE
a) The maiden edition of The Critic Challenge 2017 is an annual call for critics that aim to discover talented critical writers in order to set a standard for the cultural and creative industry in Africa. This year's competition is tagged "Rewriting the African Narrative".
b) The Critic Challenge 2017 is organized by CREETIQ, the foremost review aggregator of African Films, Music and Literature, with its registered office at 526 N Budd St. Philadelphia, PA. 19104, USA and its local office at Plot 2, Unity Estate, Ajah, 101245, Lagos, Nigeria.
c) The Competition is not open to employees of CREETIQ, its group companies or their family members, freelance contributors to CREETIQ; or anyone else connected to the Competition.
d) Entrants into the Competition shall be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.

2. THE CRITIC CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION
a) Participation in this competition is free of charge and no purchase is necessary to enter.
b) The competition is open to highly talented writers with critical opinions and adept writing skill.
c) A maximum of one entry is permitted per person in each category. Multiple entries per individual are permitted, ONLY for different categories. Each submission for separate categories must be registered separately.
d) Your Submission must be your own work, must not be copied, must not have been published before in any other publication (or on any website), must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use, must not promote your own or third party goods or services or include any trademarks and must not promote inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, or otherwise be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, offensive or in breach of any applicable law or regulation, or in breach of any confidentiality obligations owed by you to any third party. If we have reason to believe your submission is not your own work or otherwise breaches this paragraph, then we may not consider it and may disqualify it.
3. HOW TO PARTICIPATE
a) Please follow the instructions below to enter for The Critic Challenge 2017.

· Select a preferred category from films, music or books.
· Choose 2 out of the 5 subjects in your preferred category to critique.
· Send your reviews of not more than 850 words to firstname.lastname@example.org
· Submission of entries closes at 12 midnight on May 15th 2017.
Top 10 entries from each
category would be selected by our judges and published on the CREETIQ website
from the 1st of June 2017 for users to vote their favourite
entry. Voting ends on the 12th of June 2017.
Please note that voting is not based on popularity. User votes will be weighed and scored against the appraisal from the judging phase based on CREETIQ's scoring algorithm.
The winner will be announced
on the 15th of June 2017.
4. CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING ENTRIES
a) Each submitted entry will be judged based on the following criteria;
· Clarity with regards to understanding the universe of the subjects.
· Constructive criticism with regards to social political, cultural and economic discourse of the subjects.
· Originality. Plagiarized entries would be disqualified.
· Accuracy of language, historical references and facts.
· Narrative flow.
· Relevance of thematic expressions.
5. FILE SPECIFICATIONS
a) Reviews MUST be written in English language
b) Each review must not be longer than 850 word characters and saved in a text file.
c) Textual files should be formatted in TXT or RTF files, and DOC, DOCX and PDF files are accepted also.
d) Submitted files must not be larger than 5MB
6. PARTICIPANT'S WORKSPACE
a) Shortlisted participant will be provided with authorization credentials to log in to his/her own workspace on the CREETIQ website where it is possible to edit their personal details and biography, upload one or more works, information about the creative process and other kind of information.
b) Each participant can benefit from using the CREETIQ as a publishing platform after the competition for the uploading of reviews, with the opportunity to interact with some of their social network profiles. Website visitors can also interact with the participants’ profiles in order to vote for the preferred critic and/or works.
7. COMPETITION TIMELINE
· Launch Date of The Critic Challenge 2017: April 15, 2017
· Deadline for submission of entries: May 15, 2017
· Evaluation by the competition judges: May 16 – May 30, 2017
· Shortlisted entries would be announced: June 1, 2017
· Evaluation and voting by the internet users commences: June 1 – June 12, 2017
· Announcement of The Critic Challenge 2017 winner: June 15, 2017
8. SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will be done in two phases; the judging phase and the voting phase.
a) The Judging Phase;
· All successful submissions would be assessed by each judge for a category.
· Judges in each category would grade and shortlist their top 10 entries from all entries for the competition.
· The shortlisted entries would be published on the CREETIQ website for the voting phase.
The decision of the judges
is irrevocable and unquestionable.
b) The Voting Phase;
· Shortlisted entries published online on CREETIQ website, would be open to user interactions for voting by internet users for their preferred entries.
· After the voting phase, the user interactions would be weighed against the grades assigned by each judge and the winners would be announced on June 15, 2017.
a) The selection of the submitted written works by participants will be done by the listed judges for The Critic Challenge 2017. There are 2 judges each for category and they are listed below:

a) There will be three (3) winners overall for The Critic Challenge 2017 competition.
b) The overall winner will receive a monetary prize of N300, 000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira Only). The first and second runners up would both receive the sum of N150, 000 and N50, 000 respectively.
c) The top 10 entries shortlisted from each category (Film, Music and Books) by the judges for The Critic Challenge 2017 would have their written works published on the CREETIQ website.
d) The monetary prizes will be awarded to the winners after completion of the competition at a date that would be communicated by CREETIQ.
e) The 3 finalists of the competition would be expected to write exclusive articles for CREETIQ and/or her partners for a particular duration after the competition.
f) The awarded artists have the right to renounce their prizes, but without any compensation. In that case, the prize will be re-assigned according to the ranking already made. Prize in kinds are not interchangeable with the equivalent amount of money.
g) CREETIQ retains the right to substitute the prizes with other prizes of similar value in the event that the original prizes offered are not available.
h) The winners will be notified by CREETIQ by telephone or by email on or after Thursday 15th June 2017 and will be given details of how to claim their prize.
It is the responsibility of
each winner to ensure that they are able to accept the prize as set out and in
accordance with the terms and conditions. If a winner does not respond to
CREETIQ within 14 days of being notified, then the winner's prize will be
forfeited and CREETIQ shall be entitled to select another winner (and that
winner will have to respond to the phone call or email from GNM within 14 days
or else they will also forfeit their prize).
a) The organizer reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the organizer.
b) The organizer is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
c) By entering for The Critic Challenge 2017, all participants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless CREETIQ and her partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this competition or any competition-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded.
d) No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
e) CREETIQ and her partners assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission, communication line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to competition entries or entry forms; or alteration of entry or entry forms.
f) CREETIQ and her partners are not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers and providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading and downloading of any materials related to in this competition.
g) CREETIQ accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Competition or accepting any prize. CREETIQ further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to you or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Competition.
12. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES RIGHTS LICENSE AGREEMENT
a) Submissions must be the original work of the participant(s) of The Critic Challenge 2017, in the sense that it must be written after April 15, 2016 and must have not been published in any media form whether online or traditionally.
b) By entering the contest, the participants remain under any event the owner of the copyrights and other intellectual property rights, but they herewith grant, without any compensation, to the CREETIQ and her partners an irrevocable, perpetual, world-wide non-exclusive license to reproduce, distribute, display, publish, and create derivative works of the submitted works (along with a name credit of the author) in connection with the competition and promotion of the competition, in any media now and hereafter known, including but not limited to: publish online and offline the works, displayed on any publication or any event organized by CREETIQ or her partners, publication on CREETIQ website and social media, etc.
c) Each participant gives to CREETIQ and her partners the authorization to the treatment of personal data of participants.
d) The participants also declare that his work does not infringe on any third party rights and that he is free to participate to The Critic Challenge 2017 Competition.
13. DATA PRIVACY
a) Participants agree that personal data may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purpose and within the competition and any other purposes outlined in these official rules.
b) Participants also agree that the data may also be used in order to verify the participant's identity, postal address, and telephone number or to otherwise verify the participant's eligibility to participate in the competition.
c) CREETIQ shall use and take care of any personal information participants supply to it, and in accordance with data protection legislation. By entering the competition, you agree to the collection, retention, usage and distribution of your personal information in order to process and contact you about your competition entry.
d) CREETIQ may pass entrants' details to third parties and/or otherwise engage third party providers in connection with this Competition where the third party is acting on CREETIQ's behalf for the purposes of administering this competition and/or any subsequent publicity, and/or for the purposes of sending you CREETIQ's marketing materials (where you have agreed to this); and/or as otherwise required by law.
14. OTHER RULES
a) Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
b) The winners would be required to take part in promotional activity related to the Competition and the winners shall participate in such activity on the organizer's reasonable request. Each winner consents to the use by the organizer and its related companies, both before and after the closing date of the Competition for an unlimited time, of the winner's image, photograph and name for publicity purposes (in any medium, including still photographs and films, and on the internet, including any websites hosted by the organizer and its related companies) and in advertising, marketing or promotional material without additional compensation or prior notice and, in entering the Competition, all entrants consent to the same.
c) CREETIQ reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, this competition with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its reasonable control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud). The decision of CREETIQ in all matters relating to the Competition is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
d) CREETIQ shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations relating to this competition where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control. Such circumstances shall include, but not be limited to, weather conditions, fire, flood, hurricane, strike, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, inevitable accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances amounting to force majeure.
e) The Competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and entrants to the Competition submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Nigerian Federal courts.
